Privacy
Last updated: 19 October 2026.
This notice explains what Signal & Symptoms (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit this website, ask to be a guest or get in touch, or are invited to be a guest, and what we do with it. Signal & Symptoms is a weekly healthcare AI podcast hosted by Dr. Junaid Kalia with co-hosts Dr. Harvey Castro and Edward Marx. We collect as little as we can.
If you only read and listen
This site does not set cookies for visitors, does not run advertising trackers, and does not load fonts or scripts from other companies. We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, does not follow you across other sites and does not keep a profile of you: it records which public pages are viewed, roughly where in the world and on what kind of device. The guest pages and the team’s admin pages are not counted.
Like any website, our host (Vercel) also records technical details of each request, such as the IP address, browser and page requested, in server logs for security and reliability. We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
Video, audio and links
An episode’s video loads from YouTube (the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com address) only when you press play. Episode audio comes from our podcast host, and some episode pictures load from YouTube’s image servers. When these load, those services receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies. Links to YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Substack, LinkedIn and guests’ own sites take you to services with their own privacy practices.
Newsletter
Subscribing happens on Substack, under Substack’s privacy policy. We do not collect your email address on this site for the newsletter.
If you ask to be a guest, a partner or press
The request form asks for your name, email address, the kind of request, and, if you choose to give them, your organisation, LinkedIn address, a short message and how you heard about the show. We use these details to read your request, to reply to you by email, and to send you an automatic acknowledgement. A copy of your request is sent to the team’s shared inbox and kept in our database. If you are invited to be a guest, the details are used to start your guest profile. Please do not include patient information. We keep a request for as long as we need it to deal with it and to run the show, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
If you are invited as a guest
You open your own page from a personal link we email you. The link is a long random code that only we and you have; please do not forward it, because anyone who has it can open your page. A link stops working after a while, and the team can replace or stop it at any time. You do not need an account or a password.
What a guest page holds
The details you enter: your name, email address, phone number, the topic and a short description of what you will discuss, your organisation, city and time zone, whether it is your first time on the show, links (LinkedIn, website, bio, Instagram), an optional picture, and optional contact details for an assistant. We also keep your recording time and whether you confirmed it or asked for another, a private history of what was done on your page (for example when you saved it), and private notes written by the team.
How we use guest details
To arrange and prepare your conversation, to email you a confirmation, your personal link and reminders (about three days and one day before the recording), to let you know when your profile is complete, and to tell the team about changes you make. Your picture is for the team’s use, for example episode artwork; it is not shown on this website.
What is shown publicly
Only if you tick the box on your page agreeing to it, and only after the team publishes it: your name, role and organisation, a short description of you and of what you talked about, the links you added, and your episode number, on the Guests page and your episode page. Your email address, phone number, assistant’s details and picture are never shown on the website. What is shown is a copy; later changes you make on your page do not change it until the team updates it.
Deleting your details
A guest can delete their profile at any time with the “Delete my profile” link on their page or in our emails. That permanently deletes the profile, picture, recording time, links and history. If you were shown on the website, you are removed the next time the site is updated. Anyone else can ask us to delete what we hold about them (see “Contact”).
Who handles data for us
We use a small number of services that process data only to provide their service to us: Vercel (hosting and private file storage), Neon (our database), and Resend (sending email). Substack, YouTube (Google) and our podcast host act on their own terms when you use them. Data held in our database, file storage and email service is processed in the United States. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for advertising.
Security
Connections to this site are encrypted. Personal links are stored only as one-way hashes, pictures are kept in private storage that cannot be opened without signing in as the team, and the team’s admin pages are limited to named people who sign in with a one-time link sent to their email. No system is perfectly secure; if you think something has gone wrong, please tell us.
Cookies
Visitors and guests get no cookies from us. Signed-in team members get one sign-in cookie that is needed to keep them signed in.
Why we are allowed to use your details
Where privacy law such as the EU or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (for example to show your details publicly, or for optional details); taking steps you ask for, such as arranging your episode; and our legitimate interest in replying to messages and running the show without intruding on your privacy. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK and California, you may have the right to see the details we hold about you, correct them, have them deleted, restrict or object to how we use them, and receive a copy. We do not discriminate against anyone for using these rights. We aim to answer within one month. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site and show are for adults and are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
Contact
To ask about your details or use any of the rights above, use the contact form on this site (Be a guest, then choose “Something else”) and say that it is a privacy request. Please give the name and email address you used, so that we can find your details. Guests can also use the “Delete my profile” link on their page.
Changes
If we change this notice we will update this page and its date. If a change affects how we use guests’ details in a way that matters, we will email guests who have a profile.
